Masdar Taaleri Generation and and Čibuk 2 Wind Energy are pleased to announce the second phase of the Čibuk windfarm – Čibuk 2 utility scale onshore wind farm with the installed capacity of 155 MW. Located just to the south-east of the existing Čibuk 1 wind farm, Čibuk 2 wind farm is going to be built around 40 kilometres outside Belgrade in the Municipality of Kovin, Vojvodina Province. It lies between the small villages of Bavanište and Mramorak. The village of Dolovo is a few kilometres to the north and Deliblato a few kilometres to the south-east. Construction of the windfarm is expected to begin in the first few months of 2024. The windfarm will begin commercial operation in 2026.
With a total capacity of 313 megawatts of renewable, green energy, the Čibuk 1 and Čibuk 2 wind farms will generate additional renewable electricity that will be supplied to the Serbian national grid and contribute to Serbian targets for reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere to diversify its energy sources.
Čibuk 2 wind farm will generate 400,000 MWh/per annum, providing enough electricity to power over 62,000 homes. It is going to displace about 311,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year that would be emitted if the same amount of electricity was produced from a coal fired power station. It will also reduce the annual emissions from existing coal fired power plants by 12,700 tonnes of sulphur dioxide, 1,470 tonnes of oxides of nitrogen and 512 tonnes of fine dust.
The Čibuk 2 site covers about 4,750 hectares of land which is used entirely for agricultural production (mainly corn and sunflower). Importantly, the development of the wind farm will take very small areas of land and more than 99% of the land will remain under cultivation.
Čibuk 2 Wind Energy is currently supporting local community initiatives, educational and philanthropy projects through its Social Investment Plan activities. In the operation phase of the project, Social Investment Plan is going to be transformed to annual donation of 2% of annual net profit based on the business cooperation agreement signed between company Cibuk 2 Wind Energy and the Municipality of Kovin in 2022. The funds will be used for the local projects encompassing health, education, sports, infrastructure, and culture.
